Our kindergarten & Pre-k students from the Dual Language program use Spanish most time and have low opportunities and exposure to the English language. This lack of mastery as English learners affects their academic results in grades such as first and second grade, where the degree of understanding of instructions in English could be higher.

My goal is to provide solid foundations to build English mastery, which helps them achieve rates more significant in instruction. My proposal is focused on creating a blended learning environment using the station rotation model. One example of how this model is:

• Online rotation: Students will use technology to help them develop English language proficiency using tools like lalilo by Renaissance, seesaw, my On! And Kahoot (a collaborative App that allows students to work on assignments and share their work with their teacher, parents, and classmates).

• Offline Station: Collaborative station where students will work on collaborative tasks focused on skill development through social learning and peer feedback.

• Teacher-Led Station: The teacher provides directed instruction following the district's curriculum but adjusting it to each proficiency level of the student group and giving different difficulty and management instruction for the same class.​

The benefits of using the blended learning model are that the students will have more time to access technology, working different skills, and apply them to problems in the real world. The time of use of technology gives students greater control over their research, learning, and navigation process in the proposed tasks. 

 

In addition, the teacher can use the data to adjust their instruction to each group of students on their language proficiency, allowing them to work in small groups and get a better scope. Those small communities develop an environment where the learners can participate in the instruction giving them voice, choice, reflection, and communication among students.

 

I require your approval to adjust the instruction time and create a blended learning environment for my class, using the rotation station model and adapting my lessons according to the mastery English level of each of my students. 

 

My pilot project will begin by applying the model in the first year with the students of my classroom, reviewing the data and growth and opportunity improvements. I want to expand this by step to the other classes of the dual program in kindergarten and pre-k. Likewise, I would like your support as a coach and observer within the process, participating in the pilot and freely giving your opinions and ideas that could enrich this project and benefit the students.
