Growth your 

mindset

"To change what you believe about talent, you need deliberate practice."

What is Mindset

According to (Dweck, 2006, p. 17), "growth mindset is based on the belief that your essential qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts, strategies, and help from others.¨ People can (we) change through constant practice, application, and experience. I talk a little about it personally in my post, "It is a mantra for me," and what it meant to get closer and know the power of the growth mindset in my life.  

 

Having a growth mindset requires establishing what you want to do when you will do it, and how you will do it. I invite you to continue reading the following Growth mindset plan.

There are two types of mindsets: fixed mindset and growth mindset.

Fixed
mindset

In the fixed mentality (Jeffrey, 2017), people believe that they were born with a talent and are intelligent or not, or even come to think that they were born with something good or not. "They believe inborn talent determines success."

Growth
mindset

The growth mindset (Jeffrey, 2017), believes that talents and intelligence can be cultivated; the growth mindset believes that a person can be good at anything with constant development and practice, perseverance, and the right strategy. (Dweck, 2006) "growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts, your strategies, and help from others."

The 4 steps of the   growth mindset.

Step 1: Learn to hear your fixed mindset "voice."

Step 2: Recognize that you have a choice.

Step 3: Talk back to it with a growth mindset voice.

Step 4: Take the growth mindset action.

HOW TU USE AND SHARE THE 4 STEPS GROWMIN

The Power of … Yet

In this TED talk,  Dweck talks about the power of the YET, inviting us to reflect on the things we have not accomplished "YET."  Understand that we all have different lines of learning and that you still need to make it in your line, but you will make it with dedication and practice "Take growth mindset actions that move you forward in your development. Small, incremental actions are best".(Jeffrey, 2017)

Avoid praising intelligence or talent; focus on the process.

"We can praise wisely, not praising intelligence or talent. That has failed. Do not do that anymore. But praising the process that kids engage in: their effort, their strategies, their focus, their perseverance, their improvement. This process praise creates kids who are hardy and resilient. (Dweck, 2014)

Share the Power...

The fixed mindset limits achievement. It fills people's minds with interfering thoughts, makes an effort disagreeable, and leads to inferior learning strategies. What is more, it makes other people into judges instead of allies (Dweck, 2006, p. 66)

  1. Introduce the concept of mindset. Use social and emotional resources like videos or books to introduce the growth mindset.

2. Model and repeat: One of the best ways to teach a growth mindset is by modeling and implementing it In your daily life. Let children who, like them, face challenges but do not give in to them; teach them it gives courage to challenges. Say, I do not know how to do this YET!

3. Share how other people and kids face different situations with a growth attitude.  Part of making a growth mindset is learning and inspiring others, teaching them they can inspire their friend or family to get a growth mindset. 

4. Work on affirmations and developing a growth mindset daily. Create growth affirmations, invite students to repeat daily affirmations, invite and teach them to be part of their self-construction and their best daily Version
