The Montessori model has always guided me. I appreciate how it empowers children to take control of their learning in a suitable environment. When Dr. H introduced the COVA model, I saw its similarity to a learning model that should receive more attention in today's educational system. This model benefits students significantly.
This school year, I applied the knowledge I gained from my master's degree to introduce the COVA model to my students. This week, I was delighted to witness three pre-k students taking the initiative to teach their classmates. By giving them the autonomy to choose, voice, and ownership of their learning, they became leaders in the classroom and fostered a self-driven learning dynamic.
The most challenging aspect of the COVA model for me is the "CHOICE". Preschoolers often prefer to play, so I sometimes need to guide them towards the objective. It can be challenging to keep them motivated while still adhering to the curriculum's goals.
I am constantly striving to develop my learning mentality. Every day, I encourage myself to continue learning and take ownership of my learning. I aim to model this behavior for my students and inspire them to do the same.
