Introduction to applied digital learning:

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Today, technology has transformed the way we live and work, and education is no exception. Applied digital learning, is an educational methodology that takes advantage of digital technologies to improve and enrich the teaching and learning process. In the digital age we live in, this way of learning has become a powerful tool to boost education and prepare students for the future.

"Applied learning refers to an educational approach whereby students learn by engaging in direct application of skills, theories and models. Students apply knowledge and skills gained from traditional classroom learning to hands-on and/or real-world settings, creative projects, or independent or directed research, and in turn, apply what is gained from the applied experience to academic learning. (SUNY,2018).

ADL is based on creating learning environments that are truly meaningful for the learner (CSLE) and an environment and method that encourages and motivates him to choose how he wants to learn, use his voice, and ownership of his learning in an authentic way.

In short, applied digital learning offers new opportunities to improve education. Leveraging technology effectively, us as educators, may create more interactive, customizable, and enriching learning experiences based on the needs of the learners. The successful implementation of this methodology requires a combination of adequate digital resources, teacher training, and a student-centered approach rather than technology.
